Chapter Chatter - December 2010
I would like to take this opportunity in the President’s message to give a very big and heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who provide their time, effort and experience to CCI-NAC. Your hard work is very much appreciated.
I congratulate and welcome our new Board Members who have recently been voted on to the Board of Directors. Those of us who are returning Board Members look forward to working with you and producing a successful year for our Chapter.
I recently returned from my first trip to the CCI National meetings and Annual General Meeting, held in conjunction with the CCI Toronto annual conference and trade show. The National meetings were very informative and the items discussed show good potential in helping all Chapters to grow and expand. You can see much of it on the CCI National website. The conference had very good seminars throughout the two days and an excellent trade show component. It was a positive experience for me and I met many superb people from across the country.
The North Alberta Chapter is very excited by the prospect of new programs that we feel can help to increase membership and to provide more education to our members. The first six months of 2011 will feature many courses and seminars culminating in our own conference and trade show that will take place in June. I hope to see you all there.
Thanks for your support.

Chapter Chatter - January 2010
The Directors of CCI-NAC all join in our hope that all had an enjoyable and peaceful holiday season and wish all much prosperity and happiness in the New Year.
We have decided to change the direction of our seminars and courses a little in the 2010 year. Instead of a number of evening sessions, we are planning a conference/trade fair in the spring which will make available a variety of educational and round table discussion sessions on a weekend to be scheduled this spring. In this manner, a number of owners and directors can collaborate and between them cover many subjects at reduced time and expense to the corporation. Part of the reasoning behind this change is that we feel that we are not effectively or adequately directly connecting with condo owners and directors. Therewith, many are unaware that our Canadian Condominium Institute exists to provide the information, education and guidance so necessary to provide for the proper benefits and enjoyment of living the condo lifestyle.
We are also very excited about our upcoming CM-100 seminar in Fort McMurray on the 8th, 9th and 10th of January. We urge all directors, managers, owners and others that serve the condo industry to attend. The information available in this seminar is indispensable for the harmonious and effective operation of the condominium ownership and living. Ownership of the condo unit/home is most likely the biggest investment most individuals will ever make. Knowledge will help protect that investment.
All our members are urged to adopt a local mailbox numbers so that we can directly mail the condo Insite magazine to this address. We continue to receive a lot of returned mail from our members due to changes in directors, managers and companies. It doubles our mailing costs and leaves our members without the magazines that has been paid for through your membership fees.
Check this web site for dates, times and agendas.

Chapter Chatter - September 2009
Another year in our chapter’s history is again coming to a close. It has been a year of extremely tumultuous changes. We have moved our CCI office to St. Albert, changed many administrative procedures and sustained a significant turnover of directors on your Chapter Board.
Our President, John Setterlund has left our team to take on the challenge of married life. Curtis Siracky and Brent Townsend have also left in response to the demands of their enterprises. We wish to express our sincere gratitude for their efforts and support over the past few years and wish them well in their new endeavors. Sherridan Gelmici stepped aside from her Director’s position to take on the daunting task of riding herd on the operation of our chapter as our Administrator. We are doubtful that our Chapter could have made through this year without her dedication and drive.
Although a relative newcomer to Alberta, I do have a 15 year history with CCI. Serving on various condo boards and a number of CCI Chapter boards across Canada and CCI National has resulted in the making of many friends across Canada. Still, I am rather overwhelmed with the challenge of leading the North Alberta chapter. Had it not been for the committed support of my fellow Directors I would have had serious doubts on taking on this new challenge. I will need their help, guidance and the benefit of their many years of knowledge and experience as we go forward. We are also encouraged by the recent re-joining of Sandi Cooper and Colin Presizniuk to your Board.
Many condo boards that have made prudent and successful changes to the betterments of their corporations relax for a time to revel in their accomplishments and sit back to enjoy the fruits of their labor. So too, our North Alberta Chapter was able to bask in the glory achieved by being recognized as being the best run organization in Canada for many years. However the time for basking is over. We have slipped a little in our stature and it is again time to roll up our sleeves and re-energize our chapter.
Our members will note that the agenda for education and information sessions scheduled for the 2009 – 2010 year is a very ambitious one. We have scheduled more sessions in Edmonton and the outlying communities. We collectively have renewed our commitment to condo owners and directors to be the VOICE of CONDOMINIUM and to provide the education and information member owners and directors require to effectively protect their homes and investments. We remain active at all government levels in lobbying for improvements in consumer protection and tax considerations.
But we cannot do it alone. We need your help by providing feedback, by attending the seminars and info sessions and we need your participation in organizing these activities. We need you to drop us a note, transmit an email and canvas your neighbors to join us. We have 10 openings for directors to serve on the chapter board the AGM in September and numerous positions on committees. Even once or twice a year will help. You will make many new friends here. We are all volunteers and we intend to make it fun.

Chapter Chatter - Summer 2008
Spring at CCI North Albera has been busy. We have been dealing with numerous changes as well as keeping up with our schedule of course for 2008. We now welcome Ruth Johnston to our office. She is new to CCI business and is very enthused to work for us. We are pleased to have her as a first impression look of CCI-NAC.
We have held our CM100, 200 and 300 which were well attended. We also held a very successful Hot Topics/Legal Cases in which several of our local lawyers spoke on disaster Planning, Condominium Rentals, the Maintenance Gap, Arbitration vs Litigaqtion, Insurance Deductibles, and Condominium Regulations. We sincerely thank all of our contributors for their hard work.
The North Alberta Chapter covers from Red Deer in central Alberta to the Northern border and there has been a lot of need for education in our outlying areas. We have now officially ventured out of Edmonton and just presented our first CM100 in the booming city of Fort McMurray. It was a smaller crowd which lead to a lot of question and answer time. The next venture will be in July to the western side of the province at Grande Prairie which the CM100 will be presented. Northern Alberta has a large condominium market that is very much in need of CCI Education and we look forward to expanding our education schedule on a regular basis.

Chapter Chatter - Spring 2008
2008 - may this year be a prosperous one for you!
In January there was lots of snow and temperatures dropped to below -30 degrees. Many were kept busy with weather related issues. With spring around the corner, condominium corporations and service providers have begun planning various projects.
The North Alberta Chapter of CCI is active early in this 2008 season in a number of areas. One of these areas is the publication of the In-Site magazine on a regular basis - issue 2 is being printed, issue 3 will be out in April 2008 and issue 4 July 2008. Secondly our Condominium Management 100, 200 and 300 course series will be held in February, March and April. Thirdly our Membership Committee is targeting to reach the 500 member level, with plans to reach 600 members prior to the National Canadian Condominium Institute Spring Conference to be held in Edmonton in 2010. As well preparations have begun for our Spring Golf Tournament!
Many thanks to all the volunteers who have contributed so much of their time since the beginning of our fiscal year on July 1, 2007 - 2/3 of the year has gone already.
As always, the Board of Directors of the North Alberta Chapter would like to thank its members for their ongoing support and the Chapter looks forward to serving you in the months and years ahead.
Working with others and working for others.
